Music has long been associated with love and romance. It helps people bond. It sets the mood and a recent study has confirmed what most of us already know—that it can help put you in the mood for some loving.

The study, which surveyed 30,000 people, found that people who listen to music out loud at home spend an average of 3 hours and 13 minutes more time with their partner than those who listen to music wearing headphones.

What is more, 67% of respondents reported having more sex when they listen to music out loud with their partner. You just have a look on Spotify to see how many sexy playlists are on the music sharing site, to see that music and sex are inextricably linked.

Dr Levitin, the neuroscientist who led the research explains it this way:

"One of the things that happens when people listen to music out loud together is that their neurons fire synchronously with one another. Think about it. Your neurons are firing at the same rate as someone else in the room listening to music with you, and for reasons we don't completely understand, this releases oxytocin (the 'love hormone'). "Listening to new music activates the novelty detectors in our brains, and modulates levels of dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter/hormone in the brain, that serves as a reward."

So, there you have it. It’s a scientific fact that listening to music can act as an aphrodisiac.
